HORSE SHOW INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND PARTICIPANTS:

We have actively participated at the local Rolling Hills (RH), Brownwood, and Horse Show Ventures at Will's Park in Alpharetta. Once a student can competently walk and trot, he/she can participate (with Hannah's approval). Here are some guidelines to help you prepare for the horse show.

Several times a year, we host barn shows for all the students regardless of age or skill. The participants are not required to "dress up" and only a small entry fee will apply.

For the 2008 show season, we're planning on attending all the RH shows (once a month from Feb. - Nov.) and also adding one other show every other month (Brownwood, HSV).

Shows "off farm" list – for participants:

 Checklist before the show: 

1. Clean: britches (tan), Show shirt (white or a very light color only).
2. Black (or covered) riding helmet – ATMS approved.
3. If child is under the age of 12, garter straps are needed.
4. If child is over the age of 12, tall boots are required.
5. If child is riding in his own tack, please make sure it’s clean.
6. All girls will need a hairnet, bobby pins, and a rubber band.
7. Short, black, riding bat  (for jumping) and black gloves for the Equitation classes.
8. Sport coat – dark blue preferred 

• Most hunter shows prefer brown to black: half chaps, garters, and boots (except in tall boots where black is preferred). If you already have these items in black, don’t worry about it.
• A sport coat, and regulation-riding shirt is required. I’d check out the “Tack Exchange” for these items.

  The night before the show:

 All persons showing must come help groom, bathe their horses and clean tack. We usually do this at 5:30 (earlier once the time changes - come right after school) the night before. Often kids bring snacks for afterwards. Plan on spending 2 hours (occasionally more) at the barn.

All equipment needs to be loaded in the trailer, and water jugs filled for the horses.  

Bring a check made out to the show venue (i.e. Rolling Hills), so the team mom can check us in show morning.

 At the show:

1. The show starts at 8:00, make sure you are there by 7:00 AM when we arrive with the horses.
2. Make sure the team mom has your check for the show venue.
3. Make sure to get your show number from Hannah and the order of “go”.
4. At the end of the show, make sure you go to the show office and close out your check
5. Make sure to get all your ribbons.
6. Most of all: Have Fun!

 At the end of the show:

You aren’t required to stay the whole day although it’s nice to cheer on the other kids from our barn in your child’s division. Help us pack up the trailer unless you showed early in the day and need to leave. If you wanted to come help unload at the end of the show, we'd love the help. Thanks for showing with us!

Fees:

* Each participant will be required to pay for their own class fees (typically about $10 a class).

* Office and grounds fee (usually around $35 for both).

* Horse rental/trailering, and a lesson fee: $125 a day to use one of our horses and have a coach on hand - even if more than one person rides the horse.

* If you bring your own horse and trailer: then all you'd owe is a $45 lesson fee.

* If you have your own horse and use our trailer: $100

* If you have more than one child showing, it's $75/per kid

* An average show here with 3 classes runs about $170 (which is rather inexpensive compared to "A" shows that would run you $300-$800 a day).
